Hats off to Justin Tebockhorst! Justin placed 12th at the USAT&F 10k Trail Championships Sat. morning & followed that by winning the Maggie Valley Moonlight 8k later THAT evening in 26:09! Well done young man! Phillip Latter had a welcome back 3rd place finish. Great to see him back in WNC! Look for Phil in upcoming Running Times Articles, as he is an author to boot! Jeff Trantham has a great time both during & after the race as he was 10th overall & 1st in his age group!
A hardy CONGRATS to Mr. Bart Smith & his gold metal for winning his Age Division at the USAT&F 10k Trail Championships held in Laurel Springs, NC.
Congrats to Beth Saft who won the Women's 5k Race at The Dam Race at Fontana Dam! Beth set a new course record of 20:53. Not bad for a doctor & a Mom of two who has to put up with Aaron as her husband!
Raylene Morrow sent in the following report:
"I am a Warrior : ) . I finished in 43:43. I can’t believe I made it over some of the obstacles. I do have the scratches on my knees and mud in my ears to prove it. I placed 26th in my AG this is definitely one of my favorite races."

NEEDED - Sponsors for Foot Rx Frosty Foot 50k, 30k, & 8k
Please pass this along if you know any one who might be interested.
To: Potential sponsors of the Tsali Frosty Foot Challenge 8k, 30k, & 50k Races
Race date Jan. 7, 2012

RE: Information on sponsorship for 2012 Race
Thank you for taking the time to consider your sponsorship of this event!
To give a brief history of the Tsali Frosty Foot Races, I would start by stating that this event has taken place in the past (2009 & 2010), but this is my first year as race director (not my first time as a race director). There are three race distances to accommodate various abilities 8k, 30k, and 50k. The races drew 225 runners between the three events in 2010 (the race did not take place in 2011).
The three races will take place in the Tsali Recreation Area near Bryson City drawing runners from all over North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, & beyond! The race will be advertised in Blue Ridge Outdoors, Trail Runner Magazine, Ultra Runner Magazine, & The Running Journal.
My idea is to start with a cap of 75-100 runners in each race and to have 225-300 runners this year. I’m hoping to grow to 150 runners in each race over the next 3 years. At that point, I’d like to make a bid to have the race as a National Championship.
The proceeds of the race will benefit Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail.
Each sponsorship level is available for each of the three races (8k, 30k, & 50k) as each race will have a different t-shirt.
Once again, thank you for your consideration!

Maggie Valley Moonlight Race Aug. 27th
Maggie Valley Moonlight Race to Return in 2011
The list of activities enhanced by mountain moonlight grew by one this week with the long anticipated return of a favorite Maggie Valley endurance event.
Announced today (Monday) by race organizer Greg Duff of Glory Hound Events, the Mission Health System Maggie Valley Moonlight Race will return in 2011 and once again entice runners from near and far to lace up their sneakers in the dark.
“After a two-year absence, Glory Hound Events is proud to bring back this fixture of the Western North Carolina running scene,” Duff said. “Runners should be pleased to know that we are planning to restore some of the traditions of the past, as well as incorporate some modern aspects for the 30th running.”
Hosted by the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Moonlight Race will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011. Those participating in the 8K race will gather at the Maggie Valley Fairgrounds and run the same course as was used in 2008, Duff said. The course takes runners 1.2 miles up the valley to Ghost Town, then 2.4 miles in the opposite direction, before returning them 1.2 miles to the finish line back at the fairgrounds.
"The Maggie Valley Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau is extremely pleased to bring back the Moonlight Race in August 2011 for its 30th year,” said Teresa Smith, Chamber president. “Runners from all over the world have flocked to the valley throughout the years to participate in the Moonlight Race, and the businesses are happy to have the boost to the local economy that participants provide.”
The first Maggie Valley Moonlight Race was held on Aug. 4, 1979, with more than 830 participants. From its start the nighttime race was popular with elite and amateur runners alike, some of whom traveled great distances and from other continents to participate. In its early years, the Moonlight Race’s sizable winner’s purse attracted internationally-recognized runners from as far away as Australia, New Zealand and Kenya. While prize money is no longer available, Moonlight runners continue to be challenged by the difficulty of this course, Duff said.
“The valley appears to offer a relatively flat course,” he said, “but the climb toward the Ghost Town parking lot is a tough one.”
“The town of Maggie Valley is excited to be working with Greg Duff of Glory Hound Events to promote the 30th running of the Moonlight Race,” Audrey Hager, Maggie Valley’s director of special events and festivals, said.
Just as was the case in 1979, town officials hope the return of the Moonlight Race will bring visitors in close contact with Maggie Valley’s many businesses and hotels rooms. “We believe this important event will bring economic stimulus to the businesses and put Maggie Valley back on the map,” said Hager.
“We are grateful to the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce and the town of Maggie Valley for their complete support of this endeavor,” said Duff. “We look forward to once again seeing hundreds of people running in the valley this August.”
Major sponsors for the returning Moonlight Race to date include Mission Health Systems and the Smoky Mountain News. Registration for the event will open on Feb. 1, 2011. All event information, including a link to online registration, is being updated as it becomes available at www.maggievalleymoonlightrun.com.

Race Report
Race Report from Curtis Rowe:
"Just wanted to let you know I finished the White River 50 mile trail race Saturday at Crystal Mountain, WA. My hardest race to date for sure! 17,400' of total elevation change, 2 plus miles in the snow, creek crossings, stair climbs and 5' in diameter trees across the trail to name a few things that made this a very fun run. My time was 9 hours 45 mins."
Lauren Britton's Race Report:
"Just wanted to brag a little bit! I set my 5k PR this morning at an event in Naples, FL, the Eagle Lake Extreme 5k (which really was not "extreme" compared to the events in WNC!!) with a time of 22:59, and placed 3rd woman overall! I'm pretty stoked about it, after a bit of a hiatus from doing running events!"
Raylene Morrow ran the Folkmoot 5k on July 23rd in 26:16 and was 1st in her age group!
Bele Cher 5k Asheville, NC July 30th:
Justin Tebockhorst was 3rd Overall in 16:20
Rebecca Mayernick won her Age Group in 22:04
Dennis Duffy 26:10, 267/1239 overall and 16/47 in age group
