Race Report from Boston Marathon

Kim Sweetland sent in the following report from the Boston Marathon:
"I ran Boston on Monday in 3:36:10, side by side with Kristi Pratt. A nice easy pace to nurse my injury, which did fine. Will go for a PR in the fall, I guess, but I did have a great time.
Got a few "Go Asheville!" comments."

Good job Kim!

RUN WITH JUREK AND MCDOUGALL

Want to ask Scott Jurek how he trains? Or learn more about the nearly barefoot Tarahumara runners? Christopher McDougall, author of the Born to Run, along with seven-time Western States 100 Champion and ultrarunning legend Scott Jurek, and five-time Mount Mitchell champion and 2009 Copper Canyon Ultramarathon champion (and BRO editor-in-chief) Will Harlan, will lead a free 3-4 mile group run on the trails and roads of UNCA on Friday, April 29. Meet at 5pm at the UNC-Asheville track. It’s open to runners and walkers of all levels. Wear any shoes you like. McDougall, Jurek, and Harlan will be available to answer questions and talk informally during the easy run along UNCA’s trail system.
McDougall will give an official presentation at UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium later that evening at 7pm, but the group run might be your best opportunity to ask questions and learn more from three runners who have shared the trails with the indigenous Tarahumara runners.

Received this report from Jennifer Tyner:
"I just ran my second marathon (the Honda LA Marathon) on March 20. Despite having to run the race in torrential rain, hail and wind, I improved my time by 29 minutes from my first marathon last year! (At the start of the race, I was just hoping for a 10 minute reduction in my overall time.) Finished in 4:31:43."

26.2 Bataan March

This Race Report was sent via e-mail:

As Helen Ann Kroll and Sam Mattoni from Waynesville ventured out to Santa Fe, New Mexico they had no idea of the event that they were about to embark on. 26.2 miles in the dessert was all we really thought about. Wow, where we about to be enlightened.

This memorial pays homage to the men and women who defended Luzon, Corregidor, and the harbor defense forts of the Phillippines during World War II. There are few survivors left today and they were there to great us. We listened to countless stories of real events, that touched our hearts in many ways.

As we tackled the course, we were physically challenged by the altitude gain, the rocks and the sand, but this special event is much more of a test of strength and stamina alone. We experienced a real sense of community with our fellow marchers, the extraordinary volunteers, and the heroic Bataan survivors that touched our very spirit. As we placed one foot in front of the other time after time, we found a greater appreciation of the legacy of our great nation and the sacrifices required to secure and defend our way of life.

We experienced another amazing " happening" No blisters thanks to Foot RX.

Race Report from April 2-3

Jason Luttrull (pictured finishing in Foot Rx Swag - Thank you Jason!) finished his 1st 1/2 marathon as well! He ran the Covenant Health Knoxville 1/2 Marathon in a time of 2:44:49. Well done Jason!

Bart Smith won his age group at the Cooper River Bridge Run 10k. Bart ran

Congrats to Keelin Schneider for her win at the Greenway Challenge 10k & to Shawn Bagley who finished 2nd overall in the 5k in 19:08.

Lynn Rapp gave the most outstanding race report, so I'll give you her words:
"I made my big comeback at the Greenway Challenge 10K on Saturday. I was not last this year, and I was 3rd in my age group! Of course, if I was last, I still would have been 3rd in my age group. But a win is a win!
There was a problem with the race results, and I heard a rumor that they blew away. So I declared myself the winner on Facebook. (I always make the best of whatever hand I am dealt.)"

Albert Noah ran the Valley of the Lillies 1/2 Marathon on Sunday in a personal record 1:51:13. Jesse Warren was 6th overall and first in his age group in a time of 1:34.
