A benefit for Open Doors of Asheville
Join us on Sunday, October 14th, for the 2nd annual Dig the Du off-road duathlon, western North Carolina’s dirty duathlon!
We’ve dug up one dragon of a duathlon, and now it’s up to you
to ride it! Multi-sport athletes, trail runners, and mountain bikers: Mark your
calendars for Sunday, October 14th, 10am, for the 2nd annual “Dig the Du”
race.
When athletes participate in this race, they are not only
competing for hand-crafted awards and special ‘sprint’ prizes, but they are
also helping to fund the OpenDoors of Asheville, which supports local children
and youth. OpenDoors breaks the cycle of poverty by connecting local children
with an active individualized support network and providing them with
opportunities for higher level education. Overall and Age Group Awards, plus
SPRINT $$ certificates for the fastest run and bike splits! Also, a raffle with
BIG prizes from local sponsors!
Racers
will blast off with a 2.5 mile trail run, transition into a chain-rattling,
off-road 12 mile cycle, and finally run against the same 2.5 mile trail, only
this time reversed—with 14.5 miles under the belt—the last stretch will be ten
feet taller and breathing fire. The event is on private property, never before
open to the public for any other events.
The
off-road duathlon is not only a good introduction to off-road, multi-sport
events but it is also a great venue for seasoned athletes. Register as an
individual or part of a two or three person relay team. The twin 2.5 mile trail
courses weave through beautiful single-track, grassy fields and rugged forest
service roads, while the 12 mile off-road bike course descends steadily down
scaly forest service roads, which on the return, quickly become a challenging
charge back over the spine of the mountain.
Special race features include: specially designed Mizuno, long-sleeved, technical race tees, congestion-free start area, individual & team registration, LIVE music, bike rentals (by Sycamore Cycles), unique & private trails, handcrafted awards, and incredible post-race food and Sierra Nevada beer!
New for 2012: Camping! Tent sites are available ($35, includes water / bath house) on a first-come basis, by reservation (Call: 828-697-1363). Campers remove their own trash.
The first 175 participants will receive a custom-designed long sleeve technical t-shirt. Additional information is available online at www.idaph.net . Athletes may register online at imATHLETE. Don’t forget to ‘like’ us at Facebook.com/DigtheDu and follow us at Twitter.com/digthedu.
