Race Report from Oct. 22-23 & Prior
Raylene Morrow (pictured above) sent in the following race report:
the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon was a blast. Weather was perfect. I was wanting to be under 2 hours but was 2:00:40 and one visit to the port-a-john. I ended up 26th in my age group. I was right on track and in the last 3 miles I felt I had made up for the potty trip. I got to the 13 mile clock in exactly 2 hours flat. I was feeling strong and just pushed on to the finish line. I took close to 17 minutes off 2010’s time so I am happy with that. Now recovery time : )
Dennis Duffy sent in the following Race Report:
"I went off the beaten path and ran the 1st Great Pumpkin Mountain Challenge in Fairview. It was a 10k-ish trail event with a couple of miles that were impossible to run – more of a tough hike with beautiful views from the top of Tater Knob. This reminds me of the Rock to Rock Race in terms of intensity and difficulty. The 1st place finisher was 59 minutes and change. I was 6th overall (out of 20 runners – there were also 20 or so hikers) with a time of 78 minutes and change. After two hour there were still 6 runners on the course and after nearly two and a half hours there were still 3 runners on the course. Based on talking with runners afterward I know there were at least 3 people running who had run Shut In before so it did attract some “hard core” trail runners. It was a lot of fun, great people organizing the race and I think it could develop a nice cult following in the future."
Andy Brouwer was 1st in his Age Group & 9th overall in 32:14. Rebecca Mayernick was 3rd female overall in 36:00. Dennis Duffy ran 41:47 and finished 73rd Overall & 8th in his Age Group in the Thomas Wolfe 8k. Albert Noah ran the Thomas Wolfe 8k in 42:06, a new PR! He was 75th out of 281 finishers. Melissa McCulloch was 2nd in her Age Group in 47:16.
Dan Mason finished 1st in his Age Group for the 1st time in the Run for the Horses 5k. Congrats Dan!
