Race Report from Feb. 25-26
Gerri Grady sent in the following:
"The Cherokee Runners (pictured above) held the 2012 Moccasin Run from Big Cove to Cherokee yesterday. I was a volunteer at one of the aid stations and did not run. My husband, Sean, ran and had a great time. Everyone enjoyed it very much even though it was very cold. More than one runner grew ice on their hair from sweat and cold combined."
At the Mount Mitchell Challenge 40 Miler, Allie Hustead ran an amazing race to finish 2nd place in 6:25. This was Allie's 1st Ultra Marathon! Brian Simpson finished in 6:33.
In the Black Mountain Marathon, Jerad Crave set a new Course Record (3:09) on his way to the overall win! Dave Workman ran his 2nd marathon in 2 weeks finishing 3rd place overall & 1st Master's runner. On the women's side, Keelin Schneider took the overall female title with training partner Karen Ostergaard finishing in 2nd place.
Bart & Eve Smith sent in the following:
"We ran the South Mtn 17k (actually 12.6 miles or slightly over 20k according to the trail mileage posted by the Forest Service) on Saturday.
Eve finished in 2:18:59 and 2nd in the 45-49 AG Female
Bart finished in 1:48:38 and 1st in the 65-69 AG Male and 19th overall.
Amber Moran chick'd the entire field and won overall in 1:25:51.
Great course and nicely marked, beautiful weather and the event was well executed by the GoRunTrails group."

Raylene Morrow sent in the following;
"Saturday’s 10 miler in Surgoinsville, TN. I got a 2nd place in my age group. It was a windy and hilly course. I ran the 10 miles with my Daughter side by side. It was a training run for the both of us and I was surprised I got a prize."

Ramble Run 5k & 12k
In honor of moms everywhere, runners will once again flock to Biltmore Park for the second Ramble Run 5K/12K on the Saturday before Mother’s Day – May 12, 2012. Both races offer not only the opportunity of the year to run through the scenic Ramble community in South Asheville, but mother/child categories for those with young and adult children. Women are honored with flowers at the finish line and by proceeds directed to the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina.
Foot Rx will be on hand at the race expo, held on race morning at Town Square Park, and featuring race sponsors from Biltmore Park and beyond. The morning also includes entertainment, great food from Earth Fare and the new Great Beginnings Pediatric Dentistry and Haldeman Orthodontics Kids Kilometer Fun Run.
Also new for 2012, are team categories for corporate, moms and civic group categories. Get your co-workers, friends or club members together and compete among other teams as well as race as an individual.
Registration is now open for both races at www.RambleRun.com. If you are active runner in the Asheville area and like to save money, also check out the Asheville Track Club Triple Crown. This three-race package includes the Ramble Run, Bele Chere 5K in July and Thomas Wolfe 8K in September and allows you to purchase the Triple Crown package and be entered in all three races.
