Cross Country Grand Prix Race #6

Thursday September 30th is the 6th race of our Cross Country Grand Prix Series. The race will take place in Fletcher Park. Distance is 5k. Registration begins at 5:30pm & the race will start at 6:30pm rain or shine. Cost is $10 for the race (no shirt). All ages & abilities are welcome! Course will consist of one 2.5k loop done twice.

Directions:
Turn off Hwy 25 (Hendersonville Rd) onto Howard's Gap Rd (across from Blue Sky Cafe). Park entrance is less than a 1/4 mile on the left. Follow the park road to the end. Park in the last lot. Our tent will be set up in the grass area next to the last parking lot.

Great XC Race and FREE Pancake breakfast!!

Dear cross country racers!

Montreat College is proud to open the invitation to our local running community for our 1st Annual Montreat College Alumni 5K on October 2nd, 2010!. This event will take place on the Montreat College 5K cross country course, which is a beautiful course that will host the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference and the NCISAA State Championship races! Come see what the hype is all about!!!

The entry for this event is $15.00 in advance, or $20.00 the day of the race (registration will be open from 6:00-7:00am). Race time is 7:30am and t-shirts will be guaranteed to the first 100 registered. Sizes are limited. There will also be age group awards given away.

So, get off the roads and hit the groomed cross country trails and register for Montreat College’s 1st Annual Alumni 5K… this will be a great event! Following this event, there will also be an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at Montreat College’s main campus! I REPEAT, there will be a FREE pancake breakfast after this event… all you must do is register for it, when you register for the race!

From the East:
• On I-40 West, take Exit 64 (Black Mountain/Montreat).
• Turn right onto NC-9/Broadway Street.
• At the first traffic light, turn left onto Vance Avenue.
• At the four-way stop, continue through. The entrance will be on the right at 510 Vance Avenue. Follow the signs to the parking area. To access the soccer and softball fields, continue past the entrance to the next right.

From the West:
• On I-40 East, take Exit 64 (Black Mountain/Montreat).
• At the traffic light, turn left onto NC-9/Broadway Street.
• At the first traffic light, turn left onto Vance Avenue.

From the Montreat campus:
• Take Assembly Drive toward Black Mountain.
• At the stone Montreat gate, the street changes to Montreat Road (continue through).
• At the traffic light, the street changes to Broadway Street (continue through).
• Turn right at the second traffic light onto Vance Avenue.
• Continue through the four-way stop. The entrance will be on the right at 510 Vance Avenue. To access the soccer and softball fields, continue past the entrance to the next right.

New Balance 101 Trail Shoes

We have had a lot of questions about the New Balance 101 trail shoes. This shoe comes out Oct. 1. We requested them as soon as they are available. We will post here on the blog as soon as they arrive.

Upcomming Races

This weekend (Sept. 18th) is the Hickory Mountain 10k Trail Run at Dupont Forrest. The race starts at Guion Farm at 9am.
Tee Shirts, awesome goody bags, & door prizes are just some of the reasons to come out!
The main reason is this is any one's race. Your time will be entered into the age graded calculator, so it is any one's race!
Awards to the top 10 men & women.

Next up is the 34th running of the Thomas Wolfe 8K will be held Saturday, September 25th at 8 am.
This is Asheville's oldest running event. Beautiful course. Cash primiums and great prizes. Great technical t-shirt for all participants. Proceeds will benefit The Thomas Wolfe House and the Asheville Track Club's shoe fund.

Last, but not least, the Race to Remember 5k & 10k to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

Cross Country Grand Prix Race #5

Thursday, Sept. 9th is our 5th race of the Cross Country Grand Prix Series.

This week's race will take place at Jackson Park in Hendersonville off Highway 64 at 6:30pm. Registration will start at 5:30pm. Cost is $10. The distance is 6k (we will do a 2k loop 3 times).

We will run rain or shine!

Directions:
From Interstate 26 going southbound - Take exit 18 (highway 64). Go west towards downtown Hendersonville. At the 7th light (just over 1.5 miles from I-26), take a left (there's a small Jackson Park sign). Go 2 blocks and take another left (again, there will be a small sign). This takes you into the Park.

From Interstate 26 going northbound - take exit 22 (Upward Road). Go west towards Hendersonville/Flat Rock 1.4 miles. Take right at 176 (major intersection at Super Ingles). Go 1.4 miles. Take right on Glover Street (there are a couple of small, brown Jackson Park signs before this turn). Go 0.7 miles into South entrance of Jackson Park note - Glover Street is a small, residential road).

8-17-04 Update - Interstate 26 Exits are in the process of being re-numbered. However, the old numbers are still present.

From Downtown Hendersonville, take Fourth Avenue East. It will lead directly into Jackson Park.

From Four Seasons Boulevard, turn South at the traffic light at Harris St. This will dead end into Fourth Avenue at the entrance to the park. Turn left

From NC 176 going southbound turn left onto Glover Street. This will lead into the park. There is a sign on 176 identifying the turn to the park.
